Real Wedding by Tim Chin Photography

You know what? Greeks know how to party hard. I think the fact that Greek culture dates back to ancient times has allowed them to pretty much refine the art of revelry. I never thought I would say the words “firecrackers in a can” and “wedding” in the same sentence but, here I am.

Costa and Elleni’s wedding was beautiful and a whole lot of fun. It started off somewhat calm in the morning as both sides got ready with their nearest and dearest friends and family, followed by a boisterous visit to the bride’s house by pretty much everyone on the groom’s side, travelling in a motorcade. Although Costa and Elleni didn’t actually lay eyes on each other, the families gathered and said firecrackers were set off, along with bells clanging and bullhorns blaring, and lively Greek music setting the mood. And dancing was happening right on the lawn, in the rain. Everyone was so happy and excited, it was awesome to watch and an honour to capture.

Then a traditional Orthodox ceremony in a beautiful church segued into a fun and romantic photo session in a park by the water. We were so lucky - it was raining on and off all day and just as the bridal party arrived at the park, the rain tapered off leaving us with beautifully soft light, a dramatic sky and a very in-love couple. Perfect.

Then, it was on to the party where more firecrackers, bells and horns were involved and merriment was had by all. I just totally love that young or old - everyone hit up the dance floor. When the traditional Greek songs were played, everyone sang along and watched almost reverently as grandfathers, uncles and cousins and siblings alike one by one took center stage.

We had a blast - thank you Elleni, Costa and your wonderful family and friends for making us feel so welcome. Congratulations!
