With International Women’s Day 2017 just days away, we thought it only fitting to honour the #BeBoldForChange campaign—which looks at helping drive better outcomes for women—by paying homage to the strong, independent women of the wedding industry. Photographers, florists, event planners, beauty specialists and our very own editor-in-chief, Theo Dermatis, have paved the path to their own successful future by founding their own business. (Something, which just 50 years ago, would not have been possible since banks were able to refuse an unmarried woman a credit card; even if she was married her husband was required to consign.)
By signing up for a government loan, joining a local business centre and obtaining a license to practice, women are taking full control of their careers and becoming entrepreneurs. Thanks to the Women’s Executive Network (WXN), women entrepreneurs in Canada are also being publicly acknwoledged for their outstanding achievements in business through Canada’s Most Powerful Women Top 100 Awards. Although there is still much progress to be made, we’d like to take this opportunity to salute all the talented professionals in the wedding industry for their hard work and undying persistence to make a change for women around the world this International Women’s Day 2017!
