“Sydney and Grant are the sweet children of my two best friends,” said photographer Robyn Preston Martin. “Even as wee ones we could see their romance brewing. The love affair was interrupted when Sydney’s family relocated to Virginia. Here in our ‘ Beach Radiance’ shoot we imagine their little love affair continues. Sydney returns to the beaches in California to marry her childhood sweetheart.”

“Little Sydney was highly allergic to flowers so our event planner chose [to add items] that most girls adore such as glitter, jewels and shells. The bouquet, centrepieces and cake topper were all designed to add a little sparkle to the soft beach palette of pink, ivory, tan and turquoise. Seashells and a selection of sea urchins gave the cake an organic feeling to the glittering topper. The bouquet was hand-wired and included six different kinds of shells including pink murex, abalone, sea urchins and others. The seashells were paired with brooches, rings, earrings and even doorknobs that brought in both the sparkle and colours of the ocean. A piece of driftwood was used for the handle and was left mostly bare to show the beauty of the natural element. This twist on the popular ‘brooch bouquet’ ties the beach and ‘bling’ aspect together beautifully. It will also be a beautiful keepsake for years to come.

“The centrepieces were simple gold metal rings from JoAnn Fabrics, which were welded into orbs and then strung with different materials such as silk ribbon, pearls, crystals and shells. These slightly geometric dream catchers were surrounded by spray-painted shells, jewels and crystals. The capiz shell name cards were purchased from JoAnn’s as well and their names written with a gold paint pen. Chic, simple and cost-effective. Gold flatware and dishes from Homegoods were also used. The day was beautifully shot during the pink sunset on El Matador Beach.”
