“Hassan and I always wanted an outdoor wedding. We were getting married at the end of August and hoped to bring a bit of autumn into our special day. This all became possible when we met Sara Baig, our designer. Sara helped us bring a rustic, outdoor charm to our event that really brought the fall season indoors. We captured the seasons’ vibrancy with rich colours, a golden backdrop, purple and red flowers, and a set of beautiful picture frames presenting photos of our parents and great grandparents. Our sweetheart table was a masterpiece that came together with Sara’s creativity; feathers and cinnamon sticks were added in the floral centrepiece and burlap lined the candle cylinders. The elegant bouquet and boutonnieres Sara created also reflected the warmth and rustic feel of our event. The stage design made us feel like we were sitting in our own living room – relaxed and comfortable – we had the chance to converse with our guests and really share the evening with others.
“What made the décor most special for Hassan and I were the small Do-It-Yourself items we put together to make the event truly our own. Each table number featured a quote from a poet, author, artist or writer that held some meaning to us. We wanted to share a bit of ourselves with our guests and noticed a few wandering the room later in the evening, visiting every table to read each one of our quotes. We put together the photo vignette of our close family, including those who have passed away. It gave us a chance to acknowledge the people who are important to us and it was a nice surprise for many of our guests who appreciated the nostalgic touch. We ordered a pair of forks engraved with “I Do” and “Me Too” for our sweetheart table, as well as monogrammed mugs with our initials that worked perfectly as lovely little flower vases. In a last minute rush to get it all together, Hassan designed a seating chart the day before the wedding with Arabic and English numerals identifying the table numbers, beautifully tying in our religious heritage.
“At the end of it all, we were able to make it outdoors for part of our wedding day. The talented photographers at Ovyian Photography organized a special photo shoot that took place at the perfectly quaint Scotsdale Farms in Halton Hills.”
